Research Group of Smart and Knowledge-Based Maintenance (SKBM) received a Best Paper Award at IFAC AMEST 2020

Research on exploring opportunities for improvement of predictability of failure risk for cyber-physical production systems by digital twins is recognized by a leading Maintenance Engineering conference.

Dr.-Ing. Fazel Ansari, DI Steffen Nixdorf and Prof. Wilfried Sihn received the Best Paper Award at the 4th IFAC Workshop of Advanced Maintenance Engineering, Services and Technologies (AMEST 2020). The top paper, of more than 60 presented, Insurability of Cyber Physical Production Systems: How Does Digital Twin Improve Predictability of Failure Risk? is credited for being most relevant and innovative on failure predictability in CPPS, which introduces a new concept in industrial insurance, so called failure-based insurance.

About IFAC AMEST: AMEST covers a broad range of research and application topics exploring the role of data-driven maintenance and asset management within the domains of manufacturing and infrastructure. The TC 5.1 of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) sponsors AMEST. The workshop is also supported by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) Society, and the European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA).

The AMEST 2020 was organized virtually, due to the COVID-19 situation, by the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge, UK. More information at: https://www.amest2020.eng.cam.ac.uk/
